Rear Lamp Bulb Replacement with LEDís

Had my rear lamp lenses smoked with tinted clear coat, but they didnít come out dark enough.

Before I go darker, however, Iíd like to up the brightness of the rear bulbs.

Picked up Sylvania 7443 ZEVO LED Bulbs: https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b.../4743393?pos=1

But when installed into the lamps, they werenít any brighter than stock!?

Anyone have any suggestions on what bulbs I should use behind a tinted rear lamps?

Thank you.

Something with a lot more LED's with rear and side firing for more lumens, like these: https://www.diodedynamics.com/turn-t...rado-four.html

and you are going to need to add resistors for each bulb (4) to quell hyper flashing, and burnt bulb dash warnings.
Also, get red LED's, unless you like pink tail lights.

Nice to see that they're offering them in sets now.

I would pull the trigger on these if the running lights were stock lumens with the brakes being XP80 brake light brightness.

A word of caution: LEDs often introduce interference with the backup cam.

These are much brighter than stock. Did the same in the rear cargo light in the 3rd brake light, much better.

IMO, you get what you pay for so...go big, or go home w/LED upgrades. If/when I do the tails, picking either Diode Dynamics, or vLEDs. Either way you'll need resistors & those cheap auto store bulbs aren't a good solution. Tried installing in my '06 355 & couldn't get them to work right...resistors & all sucked. Good luck & let us know what you end up purchasing/installing.

Thank you very much everyone!

$80 isn't bad, but wow, not cheap for the XP80's ($180!), which have the highest lumens. Ugh.

How many lumens do our stock bulbs have?

Wondering whether or not the XP48's are worth it. :/

Their site is also unclear whether or not free shipping to you and free shipping for returns, need be.

Going to e-mail them to ask.

I just installed HP11 (310 lumens) from Diode Dynamics, they are slight brighter than stock and the XP80's are 510 lumens which is almost double stock. I know you said your tails are tinted. You really don't want to go much brighter because folks will think you are on your brakes when you are not, or think you have a rear fog light. Diode Dynamics has a 30 day return policy, so get the HP11's and the XP80's and try them out and return the ones you don't want.

Thank you very much!

Did you purchase / install the resistors as well, or not necessary in our trucks?

I installed 4 resistors, they are definitely needed for our trucks, unless you are willing to put up with the light bulb out messages in the DIC

Thanks to this post: https://www.coloradofans.com/forums/...il-lights.html I followed the wiring diagram and it made it very easy.

I picked up a set of the harnesses with the resistors wired in from GEN5DIY when I converted to LED so I didn't have to modify anything and they've been working fine so far. https://www.gen5diy.com/collections/...t-load-harness

My entire truck is wired with LEDs and I never noticed this. All mine came from superbrightleds.com.

Good to know. I was hoping someone would chime in to say that theirs had not done so.

My guess is it might be a short in the backup cam wiring. I donít have this problem and Iíve never heard of it before with either.

At the same time though, there are literally hundreds of companies making bulbs so, I have to imagine many are just fly by night operations ( I didnt say Chinese knock offs, did I? ) But its not hard to imagine some companies might be using sub-standard quality parts which could induce problems.

If you may recall, GM stated LED bulbs were the cause for some of their random airbag deployments.

One would think that by now you could get led bulbs with built in resistors. I honestly cannot think of a vehicle that wouldn't hyperflash without them. Either that, or allow us to turn off the load sensor.
