Transmission Clunk from Drive to Neutral (and back)

Hi again,

Anyone else have a transmission clunk when going from Driveto Neutral or vice versa, after already having been in drive and driven around?

The truck also jerks / squats some when the clunk is felt.

This is normal for these trucks / transmissions?

Thank you.

I complained about the same thing. The service manager showed be a tsb saying it was normal and causes no damage. My response was that if it was normal, every car would be doing it.

Don't know what year your truck is but my 2019 V6 crew cab Colorado doesn't do it.

Year of your truck, plus mileage might help us to help you.

A clunk when going from neutral to drive could be a couple of things. U-joints, motor mounts. A clunk from drive to neutral though...... cant say Ive ever heard of a noise like that.

Your description is too vague to give you a better answer.

Mine did the same thing and also shifted hard so at about 2k miles I brought it in. When I changed between P R N it would clunk and the whole truck would rock. They replaced the torque converter. The write up said it was diagnosed with shuttering issues which I never noticed and dont think I had. It does shift better and doesn't clunck when changing gears as bad as it used to, but I still wouldn't call it normal.

Argh; so there is in fact a problem then. :(

Definitely doesn't seem normal, but was wondering whether or not 'it is' 'normal' on these trucks. Apparently not.

It's a brand new 2019 ZR2 with 300 miles on it. Would so hate to bring it in this early.

I suppose that's what the warranty is for, but Brian still reports that even after work done to his, it's not right.

The problem is as described, from Park to Neutral to Drive and from Drive back to Neutral to Park, etc. there is a clunk, which a whole shift / jerk in the body of the truck is felt. Feels as though the truck leans when the shift / jerk happens, or rock, as mentioned.

Is it just when cold? Could be normal because it idles faster when cold. Kind of slams into gear when the idle is fast.

my ranger did it. my 'rado does it. nothing extreme but sometimes harsh. I attribute it to the driveline taking up slack when put into gear. that tells me there is some engagement when on the brakes. is this something that can be adjusted out? or re-programmed? Idle too high?
Id say if its doing it every time you shift ,
Then I would take it in.

All gave some, some gave all, protesters gave nothing.

Thanks gentlemen.

From what I recall, not only when cold.

I'll keep a better eye on it, as well as the RPM's when noticing same.

Will keep everyone posted!
