New transmission fix

When is the new trans and torque converter going to be out? Looking to buy but not until all trans problems are corrected. Thanks

New fluid is out, no new torque converter needed, cough cough. We will see what happens this time.

The latest TSB has been issued: TSB 18-NA-355. New fluid is 'Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP' transmission fluid. That's all I heard so far.

GM is no longer replacing the TC, just changing the fluid. And today I called every GMC dealer I could find within a 100 mile radius of me, and none of them have the new fluid... some said maybe the second week of February. My 2018 Canyon TC is shuddering and I don't want to drive it like that for fear of further damaging the TC that won't be replaced.

My Transmission is shuddering like crazy now. Especially at 55mph cruising at 1700 RPMs and the shake is disgusting. I have an appointment on the 30th for the dealer to take the truck in. The V6 with the 8 speed tranny is not a fun combo if your truck is lucky to be a "shaky" one. Hopefully I will only need to take it in once. (fingers crossed)

Good luck. The 15-16 had some problems, the 17,18,19 has worse problems.

If you HAVE to drive the truck until the dealer can fix it, putting the transmission in tow mode around town and then taking it out of tow mode at highway speed (65+ mph) should reduce or maybe stop the shuddering. Tow mode changes the shift points and keeps the RPM's higher. You'll burn more gas but maybe save the torque converter.

I have been driving in "L" and capping it to 7th gear. Gotten rid of 95% of it.

My 2018 Z71 with 2300 miles at the dealership getting the TC and fluid change. I have seen on several threads that GM is no longer authorizing TC replacments and only fluid. However my truck just went in this Tuesday (01/22/19) and when I was called the next morning they told me that they would be replacing the TC. Hopefully it is the newly engineered one as I have been reading some ongoing nightmare stories of the basically guessing work GM has been doing to correct this problem...

Its very easy to do one of two things:
(a) exchange about 6 quarts with Mobil1 you buy online, TheLubricantStore is good.
(b) put in a tube of Instant Shudder Fixx.

The problem with that is if the problem isn't replicattible by the mechanic, they won't do the work.

I put in a tube of Shudder Fix a few months after I bought the truck, no problems with the trans. It would be interesting for someone who has a shudder problem to install a tube of Shudder Fix and see if it changes anything. Cost $10.

Unfortunately, the new fluid fix is just another TSB update. This is the third one. The first two TSB's were also suppose to resolve the issues. Other then a few people on here stating the new fluid helps or resolves the issue there is really no way of knowing other then time itself giving us the answer.

I did another 6 qt ATF swap with Mobil1 LV ATF HP today. This time I used a 41" length of PCV pipe run down into the fill hole and poured the ATF in with a funnel. This isn't hard guys, do it.

You are still under warranty. Just have the dealer do it on their dime and also your problem will be documented.

I completely agree doing it yourself if it’s out of warranty.

That said, it would be nice to see how it is done...

Who knows, maybe with the new TSB they do add a tube of that “shudder fixx” and just keep that to themselves.

Yes, the DIY phobia continues, and yes, many times well deserved.
I knew a guy who bought a kit car from a guy in another state and had it transported to him.
The first thing he did was run the car. No oil or water for transporting. Burnt it up.

Welll, as for the short T-Rex arms, you should be good at ripping carcasses apart. But don't worry, the fill hole is not hard to reach. You just need to give the exhaust pipes time to cool off because you will be reaching around the right side. depending on your trunk size, you may want to raise the front a bit. I don't need to. Actually the most awesome part of this job was I found the perrrrfect place to put my front jack stands! I can take the top post out of the stand (4 ton HF) and lower the lower control arm onto it. There is a divot hole that fits the stand perfectly and keeps the tires about 1" off the ground. No chance of them falling out from under. Super happy about that.

I will be doing a How-to with pics soon.
I already have some detail here:

Sorry for the rotated pics.

I had the original triple flush done, with the 1st Mobil one fld, and within 1000 miles, the shudder was back, worse than ever. I heard about the new T.C. coming out, so to buy some time until it was available, I put in a tube of instant shudder fix. It was unbelievable. The shudder was instantly gone, just like it's name. The after another 1000 miles, the shudder was back again. By this time, the new updated TC was available, so I made the appointment and had it put in. I thought my troubles were behind me. Worked great, but...... not for long. I'm starting to feel the shudder again. It's been about 4000 miles since the T.C. was replaced, and it is nowhere near as bad as it was before. So I think the T.C. helped, but is not the total cure. I hope this new fld is the answer, but my hopes are not set too high.
I'm getting a feeling that there are going to be a lot of low mileage Colorado's and Canyons for sale in the near future.

GM has pretty much confessed to the fact that the incorrect fluid was filled from the factory. That fluid was supposed to be used in all GM 8 speeds and 10 speeds from the start. They brought these problems on themselves and now the customer is paying for it.

Have 2017 Cajun Red Colorado-just loved it, until the shudder started at 1900 miles. Have had it at the dealership 5 times, 2 new torque converters, 2 different flushes, AND had the brand new fluid put in on 1/24/19. Supposed to drive it 500 miles, but now it has engine check light on. Only has 14,000 miles on it, bought in Dec. 2017. Have started the lemon law process-I will not be keeping this truck. I am SOOO frustrated with it!
