Keyless Keypad Entry

Keyless Entry System
Part Name: Keyless Entry System

Part #: 23473339

Brand: Chevrolet OEM

MSRP: $125.00

Bought one of these thinking it would be cheap to have the dealer program. Quotes from 2 local dealers to program are 75-85 bucks. I opened the thing before I found this out, and they won't take it back now. Ouch..... live and learn.

That's pretty standard for the ~1 hour it takes. The BCM/Vehicle details need to be sent to GM and they send back a one-time passkey for the BCM that allows it to be coded into functioning. It's well worth it IMHO as I use mine at least a few times per week.

No, it's backed with 3M double sided tape. Mine is mounted inside of the gas door.

Folks, go to Chevrolet.com and go to accessories, add the keypad to your cart and select to pick it up at the closest dealer with install. (Purchase it, if you haven't already.) If you've already bought it, print out the cart showing the installation price and show it to your service department and tell them this is what GM says the install cost is.

If your particular dealer won't meet the price, I'm sure you can find a dealer who will.

I assumed the gas door locks when the doors are locked? I never checked - just assumed.

if gas door was locked and you put key pad on inside of door what would be the point?

I need one, when I go biking or running let alone fishing or hunting, do not like to take the keys or fob with me.

Nothing that costs $125 + dealer setup fee should install with just double-sided tape.

I just checked, and for me it shows dealer install is only $22.50... also lets you add a 10% off coupon which drops the price to ~135.

Interesting thing is, it doesn't let me select the local dealer in Eugene or Cottage Grove (the two closest), but does allow a couple of others that are 20-40 minutes away.

Just one thing to remember about the keypad and that is that it is powered by a NON replaceable battery which means when it goes dead then you tear it off and throw it away and start all over again and again. That is why I sent mine back as soon as I found that out.

When I ordered my Canyon I added the key-less keypad, but I choose to not have it attached to vehicle. I keep it in accessible location on my 5th wheel.

Non-replaceable battery will last about 10 years.

Not a lot of dealers have signed on for the online Chevrolet Accessories. There was only one outside of Austin last year, than another one in Austin came along. I don't know why all the dealers don't sign up for this. My Parts guy says he gets folks from 3 hours away, wait for them to get installed and then drive another 3 hours back. He said he doubled his sales by signing up.

If you look at the instructions, part of the install is the programming, they shouldn't charge you two different prices for the install. GM does not charge the dealer for the programming.

An automotive locksmith would be able to program it. Typically they are vastly less expensive than a dealer. I just had a key fob programmed for a work truck. The dealership quoted me over $300 for the fob and to program it. I said no thanks. Ordered the fob online for $20, had a local automotive locksmith program it for $50.

I have one of these things stuck on my driver's door, but no documentation came with it(bought the truck used from dealer). Think I'm just going to pull it off and trash it since reprogramming it seems to involve cards with codes on it or something.

They do come with a plastic card with the codes required to program it to your vehicle. Without the code that they used, you'll never figure out how to unlock them. You can still lock the doors without the code, pressing the 8 and 9 buttons at the same time. If that isn't value to you, than I would suggest removing them, as GM is going to make you purchase another one. They will not reprogram to an existing one. If you bought your truck from a GM Dealer I would go back to them and tell them to either provide the codes or they need to replace it at their expense. If it was a trade-in, they can probably contact the previous owner to get them.

to bad the dealer did not know the code, then you could get it re-programmed to what yoou want...
