What rear axle do we have?

Just wondering the name for our rear end is.

Name? Or do you mean axle ratio? The trucks have 3:42 gears except the four cyl gas trucks which have 4:10.

CaryBosse 03-04-2019 09:34 AM

There are 3 (or 4?) rear axles possible on our trucks.

Fully open 3.42 - available on V6 & Diesel
G80 Locking Diff 3.42 - available on V6 & Diesel, required for tow package, standard on Z71. (the availability differed on the Canyon, but it was required for the tow package, standard on the All Terrain.)

Fully Open 4.10 - 4 cyl gasser standard
G80 locker 4.10 - I believe this was also available with the 4 cyl gasser, but tow package not available with 4 cyl gasser. Not sure if there were any other conditions required to get the G80 with the 4 cyl gasser.

I forget, was it Dana or Eaton that made these differentials?

My LT V6 has the Eaton G80 Locking Differential with 3.42 gears.

Our rear axle is a Dana M220, sometimes referred to as a Dana 46 (which is different than the actual Dana 46 on Dana's website) since it's supposedly a little bigger/stronger than a Dana 44. The new Jeep Wrangler JL uses the Dana M220 rear on some trims as well, however I've seen no confirmation that there is any parts interchangeability between the Jeep and GM implementations. They could have mfr-specific changes that mean we can't take advantage of the aftermarket parts that become available for the Jeep axles.

G80 is the RPO for the locker, it's not the axle model.

Hope this helps!

Anyone have a link to the g80 diff? I want to put one in but can't seem to find the correct one for our rearend

Garrett Stengl 04-22-2019 10:57 PM

Hit up Eaton today. First they said we have nothing on that truck. Then after a second email, I was told to go to the dealer for help. I just want to know what the Pn# is for the g80 option diff. Trying to find it has been fruitless. I want to change out to what everyone witba z71 has or a 2wd with tow package. Its not that hard, but am getting no actual help. Tired of getting stuck because of the posi rear end. If anyone has the info, please send it my way. Don't wanna buy the wrong diff.

16WhiteColly 04-23-2019 11:44 AM

Call dealer parts department, they should be able to furnish a GM part number.

BudRacing 04-23-2019 11:50 AM

There is a sticker with PN on our rear axles. I'll see if I can remember to take a peak at it later.

16WhiteColly 04-23-2019 12:03 PM

That part number may be for the axle housing. May not be for the gear assembly. That is why dealer parts department would be the way to go.

You would be better installing a complete diff 4.10 G80 than trying to install a Eaton in yours. The G80 is probably made specific to our axles and not av off the shelf. You don't want a 3.42 on that 4 banger.
There is a thread about somebody teasing an aftermarket locking diff for the 'Rados. AEV?

I agree, because if you are not experienced in setting up gear mesh, you can screw up a lot of money that you just spent. Find a reputable drivetrain shop if you decide to install just the internals.
